Church of Saint Therapon in Mytilini

The church of Saint Therapon dominates the town of Mytilini because of its impressive size and extraordinary architectural style, which combines elements of various western European styles, including Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, etc. It is a cross-shaped church with prevailing Gothic elements, which impart grandeur and distinctness to the monument. Its construction was started in the beginning of the 19th century by the flourishing at that time Christian community on the island and was finished in 1925. The architect was Argyris Adalis, who was a student of the German architect Ernst Ziller.
