Archeological Museum

The archaeological museum is located in the town of Kos. It houses works of sculpture discovered by Italian archaeological expeditions in the town after the devastating earthquake in 1933. There is also a prehistoric collection of pottery and metal items from the earliest stages in the development of the town of Kos, as well as a quite an interesting collection of pottery from Roman times, both of which, however, are not open for the public. Statues of male and female figures from Hellenistic and Roman time, discovered in excavations at the Odeum and elsewhere, are also exhibited. The statue of Hippocrates, dating from the 4th century BC, is among the most important exhibits of the museum. There is an impressive collection of floor mosaics from excavated Roman houses in the town of Kos.
